Walks in Tynedale and Allendale
10 circular walks from 4 to 6¾ miles in length and taking between 2½ hours and 4½ hours to complete.
Walks are scattered along the valleys of the South Tyne, East Allen and West Allen rivers, with several being located within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Include sections of the South Tyne Trail and the Pennine Way, with some following ancient pack horse trails, drove routes and Roman roads.
All routes have some ascents (usually 300 - 400 feet) but only three have total climbs of more than 700 feet.
Walks offer you the opportunity to enjoy and learn about the rich historic heritage of the North Pennine valleys including lead mining, Roman Britain (including Hadrian’s Wall), deserted mediaeval villages and the border wars between England and Scotland.
On other routes there are wild daffodil woods, spectacular bluebell words, sweeping heather moorlands and flower rich hay meadows.
